Mother Jessie Keel Painting at her home studioI am Mother Jessie Keel, and I am a member of Higher Ground Church of God in Christ. My Pastor is Elder Earnest Fitzhugh Sr, and my First Lady is Missionary Cheryln Fitzhugh. I grew up in Church No. 1, later named First Church, which is now Higher Ground. My mother brought me to Church No. 1 in 1943 when I was 10 years old. The Pastor at that time was Bishop J. W. Taylor. I attended Sunday school, I was a Sunbeam in the Sunshine Band, and later a Puritan in the Purity Class. I also served as Central District Youth Chairlady under Supt. Snelson McGriff. The Lord has brought me from a mighty long way. Those were the days when we went to Sunday school, then church until around 2:30 or 3:00 p.m., and back to YPWW at 6:00 p.m. I want you to know that I am saved and sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. I love the Lord. I am a widow, mother of six children, and a willing worker for Christ, I served as a Sunday school teacher and in the Women's Department at Higher Ground. I retired after working for 21 years in the Roosevelt School District in the Special Education Department. I have not retired from God. Without God I would be nothing. I am now approaching my 89th birthday in October. I may be a little slower getting around, but I'm still running for Jesus and I haven't got tired yet. I want to encourage the older saints to keep going. God is not through with us yet. Now in my latter years I have had the opportunity of fulfilling a lifelong dream of drawing and artwork. You might catch me any day sitting in front of my easel painting or any evening reading the Word of God, reading a good novel, or solving a crossword puzzle or sudoku. I thank God that he has kept me in my right mind, with steady hands and a strong determination to keep living a saved life and telling anyone I can about Jesus.
