Spotlight – Mother Billie Johnson
Mother Billie Johnson
Mother Billie Jean Johnson was a licensed minister, licensed by Pastor Warren Stewart Sr. 24 years ago and served in many capacities at First Institutional Baptist Church, where she was a member for 40 years. She is an educator who taught special education and retired from the Roosevelt Elementary School District.
Mother Billie Jean Johnson started visiting Mountain View COGIC (MVC) every opportunity she had. She would attend MVC’s services and often provided Pastor and Lady Earby suggestions to build the ministry. After visiting for several years, she joined the MVC family. She is a caring, intelligent, and loyal Mother on the MVC Mother’s Board. She has been active in coordinating gatherings and meetings with the Church Mothers.
Mother did not sit long; she found herself implementing the MVC Grief and Loss Ministry. The ministry deals with the many losses we experience in our lifetime. Not just losses of a love one. We all have lost something dear to us: a pet, a job or business, a relationship, a longtime friendship, retirement, limbs, divorce, etc. Once a year she coordinates a Candlelight celebration for us to reflect on the loved ones we lost. The celebration service provides commemorative personalized gifts to the members.
The MVC Children’s Church was created by Mother Johnson, who developed and trained others to take over the ministry. The children’s ministry has grown due to her guidance and leadership. She is actively involved in the singles ministry coaching and modeling singleness in Christ. She recently started to assist with the MVC Overcomers Ministry.
She has been on mission trips to the Virgin Islands 3 years in a row. She went on a mission trip in Washington, DC, 2 years in a row. She also did Bible school on the Hopi reservation every summer and had services in the evenings for the adults with 5 other ministers.
Mother Billie Johnson wears many hats: a devoted mother, sister, and friend; grief counselor; mentoring in jail ministry; visits with the sick and shut-in; organized children’s church, mission trips, Overcomers Ministry, etc.
The MVC church family loves Mother Johnson for her commitment, hard work, and loyalty to the church.
