Spotlight Aisha Jessie
Aisha Jessie
I am originally from Compton, California. Even though I was raised in the inner city, my life was somewhat sheltered. I was raised at Challenge of Faith COGIC in southern California, where my grandfather was pastor. My parents, aunts, and uncles were all faithful church workers and taught me to be the same. In my youth I sang in the choir, served on the usher board, served as Sunday school secretary, and was often “voluntold” to help my mom with hospitality department events.
Immediately after high school, I left home for Xavier University, New Orleans. I thought I was ready to spread my wings and do anything other than church! Honestly, I really don’t know what I had planned for my social life when I left home, but roughly six weeks after leaving home, I was saved and attending Full Gospel COGIC under watch care. There I joined the choir, singles ministry, and anniversary planning committee.
I moved to Gilbert, AZ, in 2008, and shortly after joined Holy Temple COGIC. I currently serve on the Pastor’s Aid Committee, and I help plan and decorate for church events as needed. I am most often seen serving in the music department. The music department holds a most special place in my heart. I love singing praises. I love singing words that encourage and uplift. I love the sound of harmony. Praise and worship is my spiritual happy place while being a part of great harmony is my natural happy place.
The most important lesson I've learned is encouraging others is important to my spiritual and secular growth. Hebrews 10:23-24 reads, “Let’s hold firmly to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let’s consider how to encourage one another in love and good deeds.” This is harmony.
Holy Temple COGIC and El Shaddai District is now my family away from home. I will continue to serve for as long as it is God’s will.
Fun facts:
- Attending a Disney Symphony is on my bucket list.
- I still remember and often sing commercials and Sesame Street songs from my childhood.
- Spotlights and stages make me most uncomfortable, but I can’t seem to get away from them.
