Spotlight Sis Loava Garland-Bickham
Sister Loava Garland-Bickham
Sister Loava Garland-Bickham was born to the late Elder Lafurn Garland and Missionary Doris Garland. Her parents moved their family from Ft. Worth, Texas, to Phoenix in the fall of 1957. Being a PK kid, she was saved at an early age. She was a member of Greater St. Luke Powerhouse COGIC (formerly St. Luke COGIC) for many years under the leadership of the late Rev. Louis Overstreet Sr. and present Pastor Robert L. Overstreet.
In 1992, she married into the Trinity Worship Center (TWC) family. In 1993, she moved her membership to TWC under the leadership of the late Pastor Emerita Marye Hutchings. In 2012, Pastor Marye Hutchings passed the leadership torch to her son, Pastor Arthur Jesse Hutchings. She has been a faithful and active member ever since she joined the TWC family, where she has served as Sunday School teacher, Pastor’s Aide president, Hospitality Department president, Pastor’s Anniversary Committee member, and other ministries as needed. On many occasions, you could even hear her speak the Word during Sunday morning service.
Sis. Loava is always testifying about the goodness of the Lord, and you can hear her say “I thank God that I don’t look like what I’ve been through.” She has had her fair share of trials and tribulations. She survived a stroke in January of 2012, then battled and overcame cancer during the pandemic. Yet she has remained steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. One of her favorite sayings is “But God.”
She went to South Mountain High School and later attended Maricopa Technical College (when it was located in downtown Phoenix), where she studied modern business and computer technology. She has worked in the insurance fields handling medical, dental, and life insurance claims for the past thirty-nine years.
She loves spending precious moments with her loving husband, Carl, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.
She has three biological children but has been a mother figure to so many more. She is a loving and giving woman of God. She loves helping people in need—just ask anyone who knows her.
