Sister Kimberly Franklin Kimberly had the privilege of being born into a Christian home. Her maternal grandfather was a traveling Pentecostal preacher, and mother’s side of the family were members of a Pentecostal Holiness church. Life was not easy for Kimberly in the beginning, but God had His hand on her. She was not expected to live when she was born prematurely with underdeveloped lungs. Prayers went up on her behalf, and she was dedicated to the Lord as a baby in the Foursquare Church in Chicago Heights, under Pastors Maynard and Rosenburger. Her most precious childhood memory is looking out the window at the stars with her mother praying and singing “I Believe God.” Although the family’s faith was strong, at the age of seven, severe asthma and a doctor’s estimate that she had only months to live brought the family from Illinois to Tucson. Kimberly’s health improved in the dry heat of Arizona, and she accepted the Lord as her Savior that year and was baptized at Flowing Wells Assembly of God Church, under Pastor Virgil Jones. As a young adult Kimberly married and moved to the Phoenix area. The Lord blessed them with a son, who was a miracle baby. Kimberly has been actively involved in several local churches throughout her lifetime: Victory Assembly of God (Pastor Virgil Jones), Valley Cathedral (Pastors Don Price and Dan Scott), and Word of Grace/City of Grace/Hillsong (Pastors Gary Kinnaman and Terry Crist). Her areas of service are music ministry and Sunday school as well as youth and prayer ministries. She has been a choir member, a member of praise and worship teams, and a soloist. In college she started an intercessory prayer group, meeting before Sunday night church services. Kimberly realized she had a calling for working with young people and was involved in various leadership roles including coaching junior high superstars and church camp counselor. She has taught Sunday school classes, led devotionals for the choir, and hosted and conducted home Bible study fellowship groups. Recently, she has been participating in a campus-based ministry called Oasis Fellowship. Ms. Franklin has served the East Valley as an educator for the past 33 years in Tempe, Mesa, and now Chandler. She has taught fifth through ninth grades in the areas of mathematics, science, social studies, and computer science. She also worked for Tempe Elementary School District #3 in educational technology as part of a five-district consortium participating in a federal innovation and challenge grant called Project Venture. She has been in choral groups at the university as both an undergraduate and graduate student. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona. She has completed Masters programs through Northern Arizona University in Educational Leadership and in principalship. She is endorsed in the areas of middle school science and gifted education. She attended Arizona State University for endorsement preparation and continuing education for teachers. As a member of ASU’s Gospel Choir, Kimberly met Pastor Jesse Hutchins. Through that acquaintance, she visited Trinity COGIC church in 2017 and has been an active member since then. She is currently a member of the chorale, praise and worship team and serves as Superintendent of Christian Education at Trinity Worship Center. However, Sister Kim may be seen doing a little bit of this and that at TWC as the need arises and she is asked to serve. She happily accepts any invitation to share an inspiration or to speak for Women’s Day or special occasions. It is her joy to facilitate the Sunday school lessons and participate in the worship services through prayer, singing, giving the welcome, or even doing announcements. She often expresses her gratefulness for the Pastor and church members who were so kind and prayerfully encouraging during a very challenging time in her life when she first came to Trinity. Sister Kim loves the Lord! She is passionate about the Word of God, worshiping the Lord, and living a life that is pleasing to Him.
