Mother Mary Evans
Service is Mother Evans’s gift.
She grew up in the Phoenix area, where she began her Christian training under Bishop Degene Clark, pastor of Number 2 COGIC, now known as Grace Temple COGIC. Working with her mother in hospitality and Pastor’s Aid, Mary learned the importance of service and how to serve.
As a young adult she married and moved to California. Her service continued at Testimonial COGIC in Los Angeles, under the leadership of Pastor J. Bernard Hackworth, and at West Angeles COGIC in Los Angeles, under the leadership of Bishop Charles Edward Blake. She also served in her profession of law enforcement, with emphasis on serving the criminal and incarcerated youth. She served in the Youth Ministry as Sunshine Band leader, the Usher Board, and the Young Women’s Christian Council (YWCC).
After the devastating loss of her husband, she became a single parent to three young children. She quickly learned the value of having a prayer life. As she continued to grow and serve in her church and her professional life, her prayer life grew. After thirty-six years she retired and moved back to the Phoenix area. She found a church home at Prayer Assembly COGIC, under the leadership of Pastor Edward Carter. She continued her work with hospitality at Prayer Assembly and the District Hospitality.
Mother Evans loves giving service to her brothers and sisters in Christ as well as to the community at large. She traveled to Israel with the Youth on a Mission (YOAM) representing our international COGIC mission department. The mission of YOAM is service. Her service in Israel was helping to do repairs and restoration of several Ethiopian churches.
Mother Evans taught Vacation Bible School classes and distributed food boxes and multiple items donated by our local churches. Her service to the community includes a volunteer position on the Foster Care Review Board (FCRB), a citizen board that regularly reviews the cases of all of the children in foster care in Maricopa County to make sure the children are receiving the services they need. She also serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for foster children.
Recognizing that God has given her the protection, guidance, and strength to continue serving, she is thankful.
In an effort to reach more of God's people and to emphasize the value and power of prayer, Mother Evans has written a book entitled Prayer is the Key to the Kingdom. God has blessed her to have it available at Amazon and Walmart.
